LOS ÁNGELES, (AFP) .- Un infarto terminó con la vida de Michael Jackson el jueves a sus 50 años, y mientras este viernes se espera la confirmación de una autopsia, el mundo entierra el sueño de ver al ícono del pop volver a los escenarios, como planeaba para julio en Londres.
El Rey del Pop murió el jueves por un paro cardiaco en su mansión de Bel Air, al oeste de Los Angeles, informó el instituto médico forense al agregar que "su muerte fue constatada a las 14H26 (21H26 GMT)", declaró el portavoz Fred Corral, confirmando una información adelantada por los medios locales.
El jueves en la mañana Hollywood había perdido al símbolo sexual de los años 70, Farrah Fawcett, una muerte anunciada por un cáncer terminal. Pero en la tarde sorprendió el repentino fallecimiento del ícono musical de los '80.
"Vamos a ver con el hospital para llevar al señor Jackson a nuestras instalaciones donde será examinado para determinar la causa exacta de su muerte", dijo Corral mencionando el viernes como día posible de la autopsia.
Su hermano Jermaine Jackson dijo sollozando en el centro médico Ronald Reagan UCLA que "por un periodo de más de una hora (...) médicos de emergencia y cardiólogos intentaron resucitar" a su hermano. "Pero no pudieron lograrlo".
"Nuestra familia pide a la prensa por favor respeto a nuestra privacidad en este duro momento", agregó Jermaine sin dilucidar detalle sobre los funerales.
Durante la noche se extendieron en bares de West Hollywood y Santa Mónica fiestas en honor a "Wacko Jacko", el sobrenombre en inglés para definirlo como "Jacko el raro", donde sonaba "ABC", "Billie Jean" y "Beat It" mientras jóvenes negros, que probablemente no habían nacido en 1982, vestían de chaqueta roja, pantalones cortos, camisas brillantes y con mucho gel en el pelo imitaron al héroe de "Thriller".
"Siento que perdí a alguien que creció conmigo", dijo a la prensa Meriah, una mujer que como cientos de fanáticos dejaron flores y cartas sobre la estrella de Jackson en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood, a la altura del Teatro Chino, el más turístico de la zona.
Cámaras de televisión transmitieron en directo el traslado desde el hospital al centro de medicina forense de Jackson, mostrando con tomas aéreas su cuerpo en una camilla cubierto por un manto blanco.
En las afueras de su mansión de Bel Air y del centro médico UCLA, en Westwood al oeste de Los Angeles, miles de fanáticos colocaron flores en honor al "Rey del Pop".
Un equipo paramédico llegó a la casa de Jackson tras recibir una llamada de auxilio después del mediodía del jueves y lo encontraron inconsciente. Luego lo trasladaron al hospital sin éxito, según adelantó el sitio TMZ.com.
Su gran amiga Elizabeth Taylor dijo a la revista People que estaba "demasiado devastada" para pronunciarse, pero su colega Madonna confesó que no ha podido dejar de llorar.
"No he parado de llorar por la triste noticia. Siempre he admirado a Michael Jackson. El mundo ha perdido a uno de sus grandes, pero su música ¡vivirá por siempre!", dijo la cantante al enviar sus condolencias a sus tres hijos y los miembros de su familia.
Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, Cher, Usher, Lisa Marie Presley, Arnold Schwarzenegger y Jamie Foxx fueron algunas de las figuras que se declararon "devastadas", "en shock" y recordaron el "brillante legado musical" de Jackson más allá de los problemas que hicieron una pesadilla debajo de los escenarios.
Jackson había anunciado en marzo su vuelta a los escenarios el próximo mes de julio con una serie de 50 conciertos en Londres, un regreso ampliamente publicitado tras su reclusión voluntaria desde que fue absuelto en 2005 de una acusación de abuso sexual a un menor en su hacienda de fantasía de California.
A Jackson le sobreviven tres hijos: Prince Michael Jackson Jr, nacido en febrero de 1997, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, nacida en abril 1998 y Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II, nacido de una madre sustituta en 2002.
El cantante que tuvo 13 temas en el "Top Ten" de la música anglosajona portaba el récord como el solista que más discos vendió con Thriller: más de 50 millones de copias.
El hombre de tapaboca y tez blanqueada se convirtió en un símbolo de la apertura de los medios "blancos" a la música negra, como MTV que se rindió ante los encantos de este talentoso bailarín que sobre el escenario derrochó genialidad.
Jackson nació el 29 de agosto de 1958 en el seno de una matrimonio negro y pobre de Gary (Indiana, norte) que tuvo nueve hijos.
